Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the questions people ask most about CV Resume AI — what it costs, whether the templates pass ATS screening, where your data is stored, and how the PDF export works.

Is CV Resume AI really free?

Yes. You can build, customize, preview, and download your resume as a PDF without paying, without creating an account, and without a watermark on the exported file.

Will my resume pass an applicant tracking system?

Yes. Every template renders to selectable, parseable text in the exported PDF. We avoid layouts that confuse common ATS platforms — no text-in-images, no exotic fonts, and no hidden characters.

Can I choose between a one-page or two-page resume?

Yes. The builder includes a page-count toggle. In one-page mode, the editor warns you if your content is about to overflow the page so you can trim or compress before exporting.

How many templates can I use?

All eight templates — Classic, Modern, Minimal, Creative, Executive, Tech, Harvard, and Europass — are available for free. You can switch templates at any time without losing your content.

Can I upload an existing resume?

Yes. The Upload page accepts a PDF or DOCX file, or you can paste your resume text directly. We extract what we can and pre-fill the editor for you to refine.

Where is my resume data stored?

Your data is stored in your browser's local storage. We do not send it to any server, and clearing your browser data will remove your saved resumes — so download a copy of anything important.

Can I download my resume as a Word document?

The current version exports to PDF only. PDF is the safest, most widely supported format for both ATS parsing and recruiter review.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required. Open the builder and start writing immediately. Your work is saved locally to the browser you are using.

Can I customize the colors and fonts of my resume?

Yes. The builder includes a color picker, three font pairings, font-size controls, and spacing presets. Pick the combination that best fits your industry and personality.

Is the resume builder mobile-friendly?

The marketing site, blog, and content pages work great on phones. The builder itself is optimized for desktop because resume editing involves a lot of detail. You'll see a notice if you open the builder on a small screen.

How long should my resume be?

If you have under 10 years of experience, one page is almost always the right length. Senior or executive candidates often need two pages. The builder makes both easy to produce.

Should I include a photo on my resume?

In the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, no. Photos can introduce bias and many recruiters skip resumes that include them. In some European, Asian, and Latin American markets, photos are expected — check the local norm before applying.

How do I write a strong professional summary?

Use two or three sentences. Lead with your role, your years of experience, and the kind of impact you've delivered. Skip the generic 'hardworking professional' opener and make a specific, defensible claim.

Do you offer cover letter templates?

Cover letter support is on the roadmap. In the meantime, our blog includes a detailed guide to writing cover letters that get read.

Can I use CV Resume AI for academic CVs?

The current templates are optimized for industry resumes, not academic CVs. Academic CVs follow different conventions (publications, grants, teaching) and are typically much longer than the page formats we support.

How do I get help if something is not working?

Most issues are solved by refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache. If you continue to have trouble, please describe what happened and what browser you are using and we will look into it.
